Empowering New Efficiency in Port Operations | SonnePower Port Straddle Carrier Electronic Control System

With the booming development of global trade, ports, as important hubs for cargo circulation, undertake significant missions of logistics throughput and economic connection. Port straddle carriers, with their efficient loading and unloading capabilities, have become an indispensable part of port operations.

Port straddle carriers, also known as straddle carriers or Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs), are specially used for loading and unloading operations at container terminals. They can quickly complete the transportation and stacking of containers between the dock front, yard area, and warehouses, significantly shortening the loading and unloading cycle and improving port logistics turnover efficiency.

Modern straddle carriers are often equipped with advanced electronic control systems that enable intelligent remote control and automated operations, working in conjunction with automated terminal information systems to enhance overall operational coordination and accuracy, making the cargo loading and unloading process more efficient.

This electronic control system is a typical bus-type distributed application involving control actions such as lifting, lowering, lateral movement, extension, walking, and steering of equipment. Controllers and IO modules in the control system are used to collect signals of pressure, temperature, length, and angle, and control the actions of motors and hydraulic valves based on equipment processes, thereby realizing the control of lifting, lowering, lateral movement, extension, walking, and steering actions. The display is mainly used to show the status of motors, batteries, sensors, operation handles, solenoid valve ports, and to display and record faults.

Advantages of the electronic port straddle carrier control system:

1. Improved operational efficiency

Through the comprehensive automation and intelligence of cargo loading, stacking, and transportation processes, the speed of cargo turnover is accelerated, thereby reducing cargo handling time and economic costs, and elevating port logistics efficiency to a new level.

2. Enhanced operational safety

Integrating advanced sensor technology, it captures and feeds back cargo status in real-time, ensuring the controller can respond quickly and precisely adjust the straddle carrier’s actions, effectively preventing potential risks and enhancing the overall safety coefficient of port operations.

3. Reduced human resource input

Utilizing highly automated control methods significantly reduces manual intervention, saving labor costs while also eliminating the possibility of human error, making port operations more stable and reliable.

4. Environmental protection and energy-saving

Employing intelligent dispatch strategies to reduce energy consumption of straddle carriers in idle or standby states actively responds to the goal of building green ports, practicing the concept of sustainable development, and effectively reducing the negative impact of port operations on the environment.
